Nature of the service

ACT Expert is a professional platform for instructing, coordinating, and delivering independent expert work used in legal and related decision-making. The platform provides administrative and workspace services. Appointed experts provide professional expert work. ACT Expert does not guarantee a particular technical, legal, or litigation outcome.

Instructions and cases

An instructing lawyer or authorised contact may submit an instruction. ACT Expert may accept, scope, or decline an instruction. A case workspace is used to hold the instruction, documents, communications, and commercial record for that matter.

Quotations and commercial acceptance

Fees are agreed through the ACT Expert commercial workflow. A quotation or offer becomes binding for the platform process only when commercial terms are accepted in the manner the platform records. Until then, amounts shown are proposals, not a completed engagement.

Deposits and commencement

Where a deposit is required, it is a partial payment of the agreed professional fee — typically half of the agreed client fee unless a different deposit is recorded on the case. Expert commencement and related workspace access for appointed experts are gated until the required deposit is received, or until ACT Expert records that the deposit obligation is otherwise satisfied. Paying a deposit does not, by itself, guarantee a particular expert outcome.

Remaining balance and payment obligations

After the deposit, any remaining agreed fee and applicable taxes remain payable in accordance with the commercial record and any later payment request issued through ACT Expert. Additional agreed costs may arise if the scope changes.

Delivery

Professional outputs are delivered digitally. Delivery may include access through the authenticated ACT Expert workspace, secure download where that function is enabled, and formal email where applicable. ACT Expert does not ship physical goods.

Timing

Time estimates depend on the agreed scope, the completeness of instructions and documents, and expert availability. Dates shown in the workspace are operational estimates unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing on the case.

Cancellation and refunds

These principles describe bespoke professional services. They are not an automatic full-refund promise.

• Cancellation before expert engagement or work begins. An instruction may be cancelled. Amounts that have not been earned and are not committed to third-party costs are ordinarily refundable. Non-refundable or already committed third-party costs remain payable.
• After expert engagement or work begins. Fees and costs already earned or incurred remain payable. Any unused balance is considered case by case against actual work performed and costs incurred. There is no automatic refund of work already performed or of incurred third-party costs.
• If ACT Expert cannot proceed. If we cancel because we cannot carry out the instruction, unearned and uncommitted amounts are refundable according to the actual payment and cost position at that time.

Refunds, where due, are processed back through the original payment method where practical. Timing depends on the payment provider and banks. Instant refunds are not promised.

VAT and taxes

Fees may be subject to VAT or other taxes at the rate applicable when an invoice is issued. Tax treatment will follow the operating legal entity once it exists. This page does not state a VAT number because none has been published for ACT Expert yet.

Payment provider

Card payments are taken on Viva-hosted Smart Checkout. ACT Expert does not collect card details. A browser return from checkout is not itself confirmation that a deposit has been received; confirmation follows provider verification.
